British Parliament is practically a full contact sport.

They boo and heckle and disparage and all that, but if you call someone a liar in Parliament you'll be up before the speaker and suspended forthwith. Such impugns the honour of 'the Honourable Member'.
Liar is a forbidden word in Parliament requireing immediate retraction and apology; and lying to the 'house' has been the downfall of many a politician. I know it seems odd given the bearpit nature of the debating therein, but there you go.

Bugger. I should use the spellcheck from time to time. Requiring doesn't have an extra 'e'.

You should have said nothing, and if someone asked just smugly say "it's a British thing"

Nah, truth above all things, or my considered opinion as a second.
