The joyful day!

Happy Birthday

So ... it is Pete Seeger's birthday. (as well as another friend's ... happy birthday chirosinger, what a birthday present you musta got)

In filkertom and folkmew's LJs they both talked about Pete and what he meant to them.

I simply cannot remember a time when Pete Seeger was not a part of my life. I am fairly certain (and I have to remember to ask my mom) that I saw him in the early 60s at one of the many folk festivals that my mother took me to. My mother listened to his music and the Weavers a lot. I have to say that The Weavers live recordings are my favorites of his amazing body of work.

He has made his music with no compromise. He has stated his mind as he sees fit. There have been a handful of artists for whom I have nothing but respect. Johnny Cash was one, Joe Strummer another. Pete Seeger is at the top of the list by a very long distance. He is a true national treasure.

As for me, I am celebrating by listening to the We Shall Overcome live set today.
The joyful day!

The schedule for the next month or so

Some of this is whining, some just notes for myself.

I am going to Conquest May 26th. I see no way I can get to Duckon, which upsets me to no end. Duck is very close to my favorite con. It still might happen, but I don't think that the money will be there.

I am waiting for a call about a show in Minneapolis in June, hopefully I will have news on that soon. I will not be attending Convergence.

Beyond that, I have some plans for late in the year. I will be at JVL-Con in August. I was going to be there two years ago but my inability to read a calendar messed things up.

I intend to go to OVFF and Windycon.

Beyond that ... nothing ... and some of that is kinda sketchy.
