Charlie Sexton - Cruel And Gentle Things
Under The Wishing Tree is one of my favorite CDs and my pick for the best CD of the 90s. It's a brilliant, lush, beautiful, powerful work. This is more low-key, but has the same lushness and grace as the earlier work. I do wish he hadn't taken 10 years between CDs, but when Bob Dylan asks you to go on the road and to work on his CDs, I suppose some things have to get put aside. This is a glorious record though. One that I am sure I will like more and more as I explore it (and one dosn't just listen to a Charlie Sexton record, every listen reveals new things)
Trish Murphy - Captured
This showed up in my mail (thank you so much) and I love it. Trish has a decidedly bent view of the world, and who woulda thought I would like that? I suppose the nearest person I can compare her to is Jill Sobule, but without the glibness. There is an honesty to Trish's work that I like a lot. And her fellow musicians are amazing, if a little low in the mix. I've only had a chance to listen to it once, but I love it.
