WAYS OF WIND AND WATER !!! - Eric's House Of Ego
WAYS OF WIND AND WATER !!!|
I just don't get this "I Kickstarted it, so I HAVE TO HAVE IT FIRST!!!!" mentality. First of all -- and I know, I'm deluding myself, but let me have this delusion -- I would hope that we would have gotten past this "pay money to be one of the cool kids" idea, at least in this hobby that we love.
Second, I for one didn't KS to get the album first; I KS'ed to get the album period. Without the pre-funding, you guys wouldn't have been able to do the album at all. And not having the album available for sale at WorldCon would just be stupid.
I don't know who is giving you crap about this, but if they're reading this: Get the hell off of your high horse and remember that this is supposed to be fun. Dumbass.
It's over on FB, she has valid points, I can't disagree with any of them. So be nice.
I am trying to be nice: That person may have *a* point, but is missing *the* point: We want you to succeed! And having your album at WorldCon is part of that success, which I am psyched to see happen and tickled to have been part of. That I am getting my own copy elsewhere, elsewhen-- so not the point.
Do Not Apologize for doing the thing we were trying to make it possible for you to do.
I have read her points on FB and do not agree with her.
Yes, the KS donors gave you the funding you needed to get the album made, but the people who buy it afterwards are no less supporting than the KS donors.
You are letting people know that you have the CD's and that they are being signed and you will get them out ASAP. I'm guessing that the ones at WorldCon are not going to be signed, so... big deal, the KS donors get their SIGNED CD's a little after WorldCon. The perk is still there, it's not like she isn't getting what she wanted out of this.
People (and I know I am guilty of this) can feel WAY too entitled sometimes. A good does of reality would do anyone some good.
Just my double penny...

*wave* I'm the one from Facebook.
Oddly enough, I am not even a Kickstarter for this CD - I'm warning what happened in a similar situation with another CD. I would rather not see Eric garner the same ill feeling as the other person did. Now, I will say that there are some marked differences:
- Eric has not been posting about his Kickstarter every day til people felt like they had to donate just to get him to stop posting about it.
- Eric will not be waiting a full month after making the CD available to the masses to get around to mailing the CDs to the Kickstarters.
However, I do stand by the fact that one of the joys and delights of being a Kickstarter supporter is getting first crack at the CDs, or at least a digital download thereof.
Sorry you had a bad experience. And thanks for clearing up your points.
I do think it's nice to get perks like first crack, but I don't ever count on it.
